本课程以社会科学高等方法论为基础，强化训练经验社会科学研究、特别是定量研究的规范结构、实际操作、和写作过程。整个课程分为两个部分，第一部分为范文赏析，即对范文进行阅读、分析、评价、欣赏，范文选自国际一流社会科学杂志，如《美国社会学杂志》，《美国经济学评论》，和《美国政治学评论》等。通过分析范文，总结分析社会科学经验研究的规范结构的八个组成要素，即：问题、理论、假设、测量、数据、方法、分析、结论。第二部分为研究实践，要求课程参与者呈交并介绍自己的研究课题（如博士论文或硕士论文），通过课堂分析讨论，参照范文的规范结构修改提高。  

本课程的对象是写论文阶段的博士和硕士研究生。
